Dental implants can replace a single missing tooth, a full mouth of missing teeth, or anything in between. They are the most advanced way to restore the appearance and function of a beautiful, healthy smile. They are the only restorations that are considered permanent, lasting for decades and, for many people, a lifetime.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are small titanium screws placed in the jawbone to replace the roots of missing teeth. Over time, these implants fuse with the surrounding bone because they are made of biocompatible materials. Once the implants have integrated with the jaw, they create a stable foundation for dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, or fixed dentures.

It is my belief that Dr. Swiderski is absolutely the best in Salem. I've been going to Dr. Swiderski for dental implants and a tongue biopsy. I am not the best patient when it comes to pain, etc., but with Dr. Swiderski, I experienced no pain and very little discomfort. Dr Swiderski and his staff are so skilled at what they do I actually leave his office smiling! I would recommend the services of Dr. Swiderski to anyone who may need his expertise of services. I'm still making visits to Dr. Swiderski's office to finish up my implants and now I look forward to each visit. Dr. Swiderski is very skilled at what he does, he's also very patient and kind. What I think is icing on the cake is that he makes his own phone checkups with his patients, not asking one of his assistants to do this.

This office is one of the most friendly offices I have been in, I was not there because I wanted to be but was there because I needed to be there. As soon as you walk in the door to greeting you to take you back - everyone is friendly, caring, and happy to see you. Dr. Swiderski is happy to see you with a genuine smile on his face and then will explain everything so you know exactly what is going on. This office makes an unpleasant experience easy and painless. Caring, professional, excellent are 3 words I would use to describe this office.

Doctor Swiderski is very professional caring doctor with a great sense of humor, which helps to take anxiety away at the appointment. He cares and calls his patient at night after the surgery to see if you are ok. I had 3 implants done and will not go to anybody else if I need another one. He also has a great team working with him.

I have had numerous dentists and oral surgeons over the years. Dr. Swiderski ranks right at the top. He has pulled several of my teeth, performed a bone graft and did several implants. All procedures were successful in that they were completed fairly quickly and did not have any after surgery complications. Dr. Swiderski personally followed up at day end on patients progress and their concerns. He runs a well functioning practice, his staff know their jobs, work well together and make his patients their priority, as does Dr. Swiderski.

Dr. Swiderski and his staff are outstanding. from the check in counter to the examination rooms to the surgery area ... just first class treatment top to bottom. This is not my favorite thing to be doing ... but a very necessary one. I'm grateful that Dr. King recommended Dr. Swiderski and Mid-Valley OMS for my treatment. It really was a pleasure to get my implant and the whole time first class care. Thank you Doctor and all the staff for your professional service and caring throughout the whole experience. I was referred to Dr. Swiderski by my dentist for dental implant. From my first appointment, Dr. Swiderski and his staff were very friendly and informative of what to expect from the dental procedure. Dr. Swiderski is professional, knowledgeable and highly skilled. I experienced no pain during the procedure which including extraction and implant at same time. Dental procedures especially extraction tend to get a bad bleeding , but my bleeding was minimal and completely stopped after 2-3 hours of the treatment. It is amazing. Dr. Swiderski is a highly experienced and skilled implant surgeon in Salem. I certainly appreciated his extraordinary expertise and service.

Benefits of Replacing Missing Teeth with Implants
Improved bite force. Dental implants spread your bite force over your jawbone, giving you virtually the same biting and chewing strength you had with your natural teeth.
Preservation of the jawbone. When a tooth is lost, the surrounding bone begins to deteriorate, often leading to a sunken facial appearance. Implants fuse with the jaw and stimulate bone growth, preserving facial structure.
No damage to surrounding teeth. When you get a conventional dental bridge, it has to be attached to both sides of the remaining natural teeth. To secure the bridge in place, these teeth must be filed down, removing the outer layer of enamel. With dental implants, Dr. Swiderski can replace missing teeth without compromising the health of any remaining natural teeth.
Convenience and comfort. Implant restorations are stable and feel like your natural teeth, unlike dentures that tend to lift, pinch, and shift. You do not have to remove them at night.
Superior aesthetics: No other option to replace a missing tooth in Salem, OR, looks as natural as a dental implant.
Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dr. Swiderski evaluates each patient’s oral and overall health to determine whether they are a good candidate for dental implants. However, there are a few indications that you may be a candidate for implants:
You are missing one or more teeth.
You are in good overall health.
You do not currently have active gum disease.
You have sufficient bone volume to support implants and are willing to undergo bone grafting.
You do not have uncontrolled diabetes.
You are not a heavy smoker.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Swiderski will conduct a comprehensive oral examination and take 3D images of your teeth and gums. He will review your options with you at that time.
Dental Implants Can Improve Your Life
Don't suffer the consequences of missing teeth! Dental implants can replace missing teeth and restore your smile. Contact us to learn more.
Getting dental implants is a collaborative process between Dr. Swiderski, who performs the implant placement surgery, and your dentist or prosthodontist, who creates the dental crowns or prostheses that are attached to the implants. Throughout the process, Dr. Swiderski will work closely with the dentist doing the restorations to ensure a seamless process.
The procedure to place an implant typically takes 30 to 45 minutes for a single implant and about 2 hours for multiple implants. The number of appointments and the time required vary from patient to patient, depending on the number of teeth being replaced, the number of implants used, and other factors.
Before surgery, you may receive antibiotics and, for greater comfort, intravenous sedation or nitrous oxide (laughing gas). These options are discussed with you at your consultation appointment. A local anesthetic will be administered to numb the area where the implant will be placed.
When you are comfortable, Dr. Swiderski makes a small incision in the gums to reveal the bone and implants the titanium implant. The top of this implant is often visible through the gum. Sometimes, it is better in the early stages of healing to have the implant covered by the gum tissue.
When Are Dental Implants Placed?
Implants are typically placed several months after extraction. At times, an implant may be placed immediately after the tooth is extracted. This may involve a little more risk, but it simplifies the process; you won’t have to wait for another appointment to place the implant.
If your tooth has been missing for some time, the adjacent support bone is likely to grow thinner and shrink. This occurs because the root of the natural tooth has to be present to stimulate the bone. As much as one-third of your jaw’s thickness can be lost in the year following tooth extraction. If you are missing too much bone, you may need bone grafting to provide sufficient bone to support the implants. This can add several months to the implant process.
The Healing Phase
The healing time varies from person to person, depending upon the quality and quantity of bone. Dr. Swiderski will advise you on follow-up care and timing. After the initial phase of healing as needed,Dr. Swiderski adds a healing cap to the implant during a brief follow-up visit. This allows gum tissue to mature and provides access to the implant.
Whether it’s one tooth or all of your teeth being replaced, your dentist will complete the restoration by fitting the replacement tooth (crown) to the dental implant.
How Many Implants Do I Need?
Most frequently, one implant is placed per missing tooth. Because many of the larger teeth in the back of your jaw have two or three roots, the most common approach is to replace missing back teeth with larger implants. If you are replacing a full arch of missing teeth, you may have between four and eight implants placed in the upper or lower jawbone. When these are sufficiently healed, a full arch of replacement teeth is attached to these implants. This allows for less surgical intervention while supporting a full set of teeth.
From the placement of the implants to the final, permanent restorations, the process can take up to eight months.
