Introduction to Dental Implants
Dental implants are changing the way people live. They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. After dental implant reconstruction, the patient who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything, and knows the teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. Patients with dental implants can smile with confidence.
What are Dental Implants?
The dental implants themselves are small titanium screws that are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root replacements. The bone fuses with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts that protrude through the gums are then attached to the dental implant. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.
Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.
Dr. Swiderski brings years of experience and training, and a genuine passion for the well being of his patients to work with him each day.Salem Office Request Appointment
The Surgical Procedure
For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, dental implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following surgery, the dental implants are beneath the surface of the gums gradually fusing with the bone. You should be able to wear temporary teeth and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your dentist is making your new permanent teeth.
After the dental implant has fused to the bone, the second phase begins. Dr. Swiderski will uncover the dental implant and attach small posts that protrude through the gums and will act as anchors for the replacement teeth. When the replacement teeth are placed, these posts will not be seen. The entire procedure usually takes four to eight months. Most patients experience minimal disruption in their daily life.
Dental Implants Presentation
To provide you with a better understanding of dental implants, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to dental implants are discussed.
Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Swiderski is able to place single stage dental implants. These dental implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them, but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before replacement teeth are placed. There are even situations where the dental implants can be placed at the same time as a tooth extraction further minimizing the number of surgical procedures. Advances in dental implant technology have made it possible, in select cases, to extract teeth and place dental implants with crowns at one visit.
Implants are a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist. While Dr. Swiderski performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary, the restorative dentist (Dr. Swiderski) fits and makes the teeth. He will also make any temporary teeth needed during the implant process.

What Types of Replacement Teeth are Available?
A single dental crown is used to replace one missing tooth. Each replacement tooth attaches to its own dental implant. A bridge can replace two or more teeth and may require only two or three dental implants. A complete fixed bridge replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. The number of dental implants varies depending upon which type of replacement teeth (removable or fixed) is recommended. A removable over denture attaches to a bar or ball-in-socket attachments, whereas fixed replacement teeth are permanent and removable only by the dentist.
Dr. Swiderski performs in-office implant surgery in a hospital-style operating suite, thus optimizing the level of sterility. Inpatient hospital implant surgery is for patients who have special medical or anesthetic needs or for those who need extensive bone grafting from the jaw, hip or tibia.
Why Dental Implants?
Once you learn about dental implants, you finally realize there is a way to improve your life. When you lose several teeth-whether its a new situation or something you have lived with for years-chances are you have never become fully accustomed to losing such a vital part of yourself.
Dental implants can be your doorway to renewed self-confidence and peace of mind.
A Swedish scientist and orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark, developed this concept for natural tooth replacement more than 35 years ago. With his pioneering research, Dr. Branemark opened the door to a lifetime of renewed comfort and self-confidence for millions of individuals facing the frustration and embarrassment of tooth loss.
Why Select Dental Implants over more Traditional Types of Restorations?
There are several reasons: Why sacrifice the structure of surrounding good teeth to bridge a space? In addition, removing a denture or a partial at night may be inconvenient, not to mention that dentures that slip can be uncomfortable and rather embarrassing.
Are You a Candidate for Implants?
If you are considering dental implants, your mouth must be examined thoroughly and your medical and dental history reviewed. If you mouth is not ideal for dental implants, ways of improving it, such as bone grafting, may be recommended.
What Type of Anesthesia is Used?
The majority of dental implants and bone grafts can be performed in the office under local anesthesia, with, or without general anesthesia.
Do Implants need Special Care?
Once the implants are in place, they will serve you well for many years if you take care of them and keep your mouth healthy. This means taking the time for good oral hygiene (brushing and flossing) and keeping regular appointments with your dental specialists.
TEETH-IN-AN-HOUR is a revolutionary concept providing patients with fully functioning teeth on dental implants in one single procedure that lasts about an hour. This technology was developed by Nobel Biocare and allows for collaboration between both the restorative doctor and the surgeon. This merging of knowledge and experience achieves not only increased safety, but also a more precise implant placement. In addition, the fabrication of a final prosthesis is completed prior to the surgery. The computer-guided implant surgery is done in an arthroscopic fashion without requiring any flap reflection. This benefits the patient in that there is less postoperative discomfort, less swelling and less bruising. Patients can often resume their normal activities the next day.
The process starts when a Cone Beam CT scan is taken of the patient’s jawbone. This Cone Beam CT scan allows for the generation of a three-dimensional model of the jawbone that can then be used in virtual reality software to plan the implant placement without the presence of the patient. The results are more accurate implant placement, and less chair time for the patient at the surgery office.

This medical team was amazing. I have a lot of fear going in for any care and they listened to me and took good care of me. I had to have teeth removed and the surgery went very fast and good. I am feeling much better than expected after surgery and I know if I have any trouble I will be able to reach out to them and receive care.

This office is one of the most friendly offices I have been in, I was not there because I wanted to be but was there because I needed to be there. As soon as you walk in the door to greeting you to take you back - everyone is friendly, caring, and happy to see you. Dr. Swiderski is happy to see you with a genuine smile on his face and then will explain everything so you know exactly what is going on. This office makes an unpleasant experience easy and painless. Caring, professional, excellent are 3 words I would use to describe this office.

Doctor Swiderski is very professional caring doctor with a great sense of humor, which helps to take anxiety away at the appointment. He cares and calls his patient at night after the surgery to see if you are ok. I had 3 implants done and will not go to anybody else if I need another one. He also has a great team working with him.

Two of my children have required multiple extractions for pre-orthodontic treatment, and I have had one surgery myself. We have experienced a total of 5 office procedures so far and have had an excellent experience every time. The entire staff is welcoming and compassionate, the office is beautiful and comfortable, and the care is top notch. I highly recommend Dr. Swiderski and his staff for any care you may need.

Great care from everyone , from front office to the Dr. and assistants. Everyone took very good care of me through my procedure . I will return for all of my surgical needs as well as my family. Thank you for getting me out of pain .
I have had numerous dentists and oral surgeons over the years. Dr. Swiderski ranks right at the top. He has pulled several of my teeth, performed a bone graft and did several implants. All procedures were successful in that they were completed fairly quickly and did not have any after surgery complications. Dr. Swiderski personally followed up at day end on patients progress and their concerns. He runs a well functioning practice, his staff know their jobs, work well together and make his patients their priority, as does Dr. Swiderski.
- Gary G
I highly recommend Dr. Swiderski. I was somewhat nervous about dental implant surgery but he put me right at ease. He was fast, efficient and very professional. I had an excellent outcome & will definitely go back to him if I ever require another implant!
- JoAnn B
My experience with Dr. Swiderski and all of his staff including the front office were the most helpful and courtious Team I have encountered in the Dental field. I would highly recommend you choose them first before moving forward on any important surgery for you or your Family.
- Robert H
The staff was compassionate and professional. Could not ask for more attention and cooperation. Dr. Swiderski was friendly, concerned and professional. A post surgery call to check my status is a reflection of his overall treatment. Great dentist

Everything went so well. The office is such a pleasant, calming place (although I did accidentally walk in the wrong door). The medical assistant that I worked with was amazing. She did everything -- took xrays, looked at my case, set up the OR, gave the shots, assisted with the extraction, and so nice! This lady might consider medical school!? Dr Swiderski came in with a big smile, very friendly and made me feel this was going to be easy. The procedure went well. A little tough getting out the roots. I had some pain afterwards, but one day after surgery I'm having no pain at all. Thanks!
- Evan L
I would highly recommend Dr. Swiderski. He made me feel relaxed and put me at ease. He called to check up on me the night of my surgery. It was nice to have someone check up on me to make sure I was doing good. I was expecting to be in pain, after having 5 back teeth pulled. I didn't have any pain after one day surgery.
