Impacted Wisdom Teeth Salem OR
What Is An Impacted Tooth?
Although most people develop and grow 32 permanent adult teeth, many times their jaws are too small to accommodate the four wisdom teeth. When inadequate space prevents the teeth from erupting they are called impacted. This indicates their inability to erupt into the proper position for chewing and cleaning.
Do You Want Your Wisdom Teeth Removed?
If your wisdom teeth are causing you pain or you want to avoid future problems, contact our office to schedule an appointment.
Types Of Impactions
We will need to see you for a consultation to determine if you will benefit from wisdom tooth removal. A special x-ray of your mouth and jaws (panorex) will be taken to determine if your wisdom teeth are impacted, if there is room for them to erupt, and how difficult it will be to have them removed.
- Soft Tissue Impaction: There is not enough room to allow the gum tissue to retract for adequate cleaning of the tooth.
- Partial Bony Impaction: There is enough space to allow the wisdom tooth to partially erupt. However, the tooth cannot function properly in the chewing process, and creates cleaning problems, among others.
- Complete Bony Impaction: There is NO space for the tooth to erupt. It remains embedded in the jaw bone or if even partially visible requires complex surgical techniques for removal. The impacted wisdom tooth may also be in an unusual position and difficult to remove. This situation can also arise when the shape or size of the jaw bone and other facial structures make removal of this tooth significantly more complex.

Having never had a tooth extracted, I was a bit apprehensive. Everyone involved made it a professional experience.

I hadn't seen a dentist or doctor in around 11 years but from the first phone call and appointment with Dr. Swiderski's office I felt comfortable and safe, not only with his office staff, but with him and the procedure that needed done. I really never expected to be needing my teeth cut out of my gums and drilled just for this procedure as I thought in time they would grow out, so when they didn't I was terrified that I needed such an invasive procedure. After a lot of childhood trauma in medical settings, it was no easier preparing myself for surgery until I encountered Dr Swiderski and his team. I've never felt safer or more cared for by medical professionals and for once in my life I didn't even feel the needle for general anesthesia as it went in thanks to the ethyl chloride spray! I have a lot of phobias, but this team made them easy to face. I wish I could go back to this team for every medical procedure I ever needed, so I can say without a doubt if I do ever need any oral surgery again this would be the place I come to. I never even felt a thing until I was taking ibuprofen to ease the swelling 5 hours after the surgery once feeling finally returned and I could swallow properly. I've never encountered anyone better and I always, rather embarrassingly, brag about it to my friends who need this procedure, right before I recommend his team. If you're gonna go anywhere go with these guys! They'll not only make you feel safe and comfortable, even when you have a lot of questions, but they'll make the procedure seem easy in all their experience. I never had a serious problem when all was said and done, yet they still let me come in just for a checkup a week later. They answered all my questions without making me feel ashamed and best of all they did an amazing job!!

I'm only ever here when I have something catastrophic going on with my teeth (stating the obvious), and this last time it was a very infected tooth where the infection was taking out bone, affecting my sinuses, etc. I was a mess, because my teeth hate me. Dr. Swiderski told me that TWO teeth needed to be pulled, because the one next to Bad Tooth was loose (fine, just a little) and the infection had basically caused too much bone loss. As is my way, I tried to air a grievance about this, noting that my Googling was surely as good as Dr. Swiderski's several advanced degrees and his prestigious residency at the Mayo Clinic. Perhaps not surprisingly, I was shot down, albeit nicely considering I was of course talking nonsense. All of the assistants are wonderful too, as I kept warning them that "I'm a baby about this stuff" and "it takes a lot of novocaine to work" and making the sad face of dread. Oh, and the x-ray apparatus they have is very high-tech! Regular plates hurt my mouth because I have mandibular tori (which I didn't even know weren't normal until I was an adult), but here they have a whirring machine that rotates and magically takes x-rays. So, the point. This was a complicated dental surgery because so much of the bone was eaten away and it involved two teeth and I'm a wimp about anything dental-related....but I'll have to go back for follow up and probably bone grafting, and I actually don't dread it. That's how nice everyone there is, and how hard they work to make sure this is as pain-free as possible, so much unlike the root canal sadistic nightmares of my youth. It's also nice of Dr. Swiderski to check in the evening of surgery to make sure we're doing okay. Overall, if you need dental surgery, I highly recommend Dr. Swiderski and crew!

We were very impressed with the cleanliness, professionalism, and efficiency of Dr. Swiderski’s office when my daughter had her wisdom teeth extracted. All of our questions were answered and the procedure went very smoothly. Dr. Swiderski called to check up on her afterward and the office staff was kind and helpful when we had further questions. Very positive experience!

This medical team was amazing. I have a lot of fear going in for any care and they listened to me and took good care of me. I had to have teeth removed and the surgery went very fast and good. I am feeling much better than expected after surgery and I know if I have any trouble I will be able to reach out to them and receive care.

I just had two wisdom teeth pulled last week and the process could not have gone any better. Dr. Swiderski was kind, confident and compassionate and the whole office was warm and friendly. Highly recommend!
I just completed my triple tooth extractions and dual implant procedures. From start to finish everything went very smoothly and without a glitch. I’m extremely happy with the results. Dr. Swiderski is a friendly, compassionate and highly skilled surgeon who I recommend without hesitation. All the procedures were completely pain free and done in an efficient, professional, cost effective and timely manner. The staff is fabulous as well, always highly concerned about your comfort and well being and always patient in answering all your questions. The Mid Valley is extremely fortunate to have such a superb facility in our midst.

Thank you for making my experience a good one.
I was unsure about getting dental implants at first. I thought there would be a lot of pain and discomfort. Was I ever wrong! This is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Thank you Dr. Swiderski!

This office is one of the most friendly offices I have been in, I was not there because I wanted to be but was there because I needed to be there. As soon as you walk in the door to greeting you to take you back - everyone is friendly, caring, and happy to see you. Dr. Swiderski is happy to see you with a genuine smile on his face and then will explain everything so you know exactly what is going on. This office makes an unpleasant experience easy and painless. Caring, professional, excellent are 3 words I would use to describe this office.

Doctor Swiderski is very professional caring doctor with a great sense of humor, which helps to take anxiety away at the appointment. He cares and calls his patient at night after the surgery to see if you are ok. I had 3 implants done and will not go to anybody else if I need another one. He also has a great team working with him.

Two of my children have required multiple extractions for pre-orthodontic treatment, and I have had one surgery myself. We have experienced a total of 5 office procedures so far and have had an excellent experience every time. The entire staff is welcoming and compassionate, the office is beautiful and comfortable, and the care is top notch. I highly recommend Dr. Swiderski and his staff for any care you may need.
